Resolutions don’t work. People state them, and by March they are out the window if not before. Why don’t they work? Because true change starts when the brain recognizes truth. When we set resolutions, they can be so far from the way we live and the regular choices that we make, that our brain automatically can tell it’s not going to happen. It’s not our truth.

So what does work? Spend some time listing your top 25 values, then prioritize them to identify your top 10. If you want to build a business, and building a business is not listed in your top 10 values, then you can immediately spot a gap. When there is a gap between what you say you value, and what you say you want, this causes stress and discord. The goal is to align your everyday choices with your top 10 values.
What if you do a list of values, and “good health” is not on the list. Do you think a resolution around losing weight or exercising more will succeed? If anything, if good health is not in your top 10, then release yourself from thinking you’ve got to do something about your health. What matters most is to know what you value most, and then make choices each day that reduce the gaps between what you say you want, and what you want.
Need help with figuring out what you value or how to prioritize them? We can help! We offer 1:1 coaching as well as a fun group option that meets monthly on Zoom.
So forget resolutions, and spend time with yourself figuring out what you value. Then find a few ways to go get it. It’s your truth, your brain will accept it, and you’ll feel happier taking action towards your most valued life. Being honest with yourself about what you want and the choices you make empowers you to feel joy and know you’re on the right path. It’s your life, yours to live as you see fit. I hope 2023 brings you fewer gaps and greater clarity. Happy New Year, friends! I’m glad you’re here and would love to hear what’s next for you!
Such a great idea to align your vision with your values and notice when you are out of alignment. Thanks for sharing this!
